Earth, Wind & Fire – ‘Boogie Wonderland’ bass playalong

After a brief hiatus during which I became a dad (see below), I thought I’d ease back into making videos with a straightforward playalong of this classic EWF tune.

(As you can see, I’m happy carrying the baby as long as coffee and snacks are available!)

This one was requested by my student Fitzroy, and I actually did the transcription back at the start of October. A lot of EWF stems are available online, and having found the stems for this one, it made it a lot easier. Is it cheating? Probably!

The details in the original isolated bass track are easy to miss in the final mix. For example, I never previously noticed the open Ds that Verdine tends to hit in the fourth bar of the main phrase. They’re subtle, as he accents the notes on the first string, but he almost always hits them as a way of maintaining momentum and groove.

PDFs of the transcription are available below as always:

Isolated bass (synced up with the tab) available on Patreon for Pentatonic Patrons and above.
